The Moscow — Kazan High Speed Rail Line will become an illustrative example of a safe railway for the whole of Russia. This was declared during the government hour of the State Duma of the Russian Federation by the Head of the Ministry of Transport of Russia, Maxim Sokolov.
Replying to a question raised by a deputy of the KPRF party Mikail Shchapov, the Minister said that HSR will be built on a separate section and won’t cross the street network. This is very relevant because only during the last year more than 2.7 thousand accidents occurred on the railways across the country and 1.7 thousand of them had fatal outcomes.
The representative of the government agreed with the deputy that one of the main causes of deaths that occur under trains is the lack of specially equipped and safe underground and overground crossings at small railway stations. The cost of construction of such crossings is estimated from 25 to 150 million rubles. Meanwhile, RZD refuses to allocate funds for this purpose recalling that the construction of such facilities is the responsibility of the municipalities which have no money for such construction woks.
Mr. Sokolov recognized that such problem exists and it should be solved by different methods. At the same time, he assured deputies that all new traffic arteries will be provided with conflict-free road crossings. In this regard, he primarily mentioned the Moscow — Kazan HSR.
